Normally I stick to big bold beers for this series. However, Muskoka brewery just released this low alcohol session sour for the holidays. And the holidays are not always about heavy alcoholic, pass out in front of the fireplace beers. There are a lot of parties to go to. If someone wants to be a bit more responsible in the drinking choices; having a tasty lower alcohol beer like this on hand would be a nice choice.


Onto our beer...

pours a slightly hazy light gold Aroma is grassy, fruity, floral, pineapple, and grapefruit. First sip is mildly sour, with tropical fruit and hints of pine. Aeration brings out citrus lemon and tangerine and a hint of green grass.

Impressions: Fail, So-so, Pass, Exceptional

Final Thoughts:

This turned out to be a nice light refreshing beer. It citrusy and clean with some nice tropicals in the background. This is a perfect beer for holiday parties you can easily have a few without getting out of control. Take a few to your next party, and don't drink and drive.

Down to Nickel Brook again for their take on a classic wheat beer.

Onto the tasting.

Luminescent gold with a hint of green. Very large white head made up of small bubbles that disperses quickly to almost nothing. Aroma is very wheaty, peppery, and spicy. First sip is apple and citrus. Tangy, zippy, slightly sour. Finish is roasted wheat malt, toasted bread, and grapes. Very light and fruity. Aeration, is lactic and malic acid and toasty wheat.

Final Thoughts:

This is quite a good beer. Very lively with a lot going on. Excellent for the patio even better for the BBQ. Serve in place of a sparkling wine.

This Cidery has no website or twitter feed so I can't garner much information about them. Situated on the south side of the St. Lawrence just a little upriver from Quebec City, St. Nicholas one of the oldest parishes in Quebec, dating back to 1694. Tonight's cider is the lowest in alcohol this week (2.8%) and the most expensive ($12.00)

Enough scrounging for facts... onto the tasting.


Very clear green and gold in colour. Head disperses immediately leaving no trace. plenty of bubbles breaking the surface though. Nose is fresh spy and russet apples with plenty of cinnamon. First sip is spicy, honey, tart, crisp, fresh pressed apple. A true, natural cider taste. Very fizzy. Bubbles like champagne in my mouth. Sweet but not cloying, very clean, sharp enough to wake up the palate. Could conceivably drink this on a patio all afternoon.

Final Thoughts:

An excellent cider. Too expensive for everyday drinking but a nice bottle to share with someone special.
