Last week we lost a great actor. Leonard Nimoy, the man who brought Spock from Star trek to life and taught us what it was to be logical. Aside from that He was a singer, a writer, a director and a poet His poetry is up on a website here. His last tweet was also very poetic, just a couple of days before his passing he shared this with his followers.

A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP

So, you will ask what does this have to do with my beer choice for this evening. Well Leonard was an honourary citizen of a small town in Alberta called Vulcan. Vulcan just happened to share it's name with the fictional Home planet of TV's Mr. Spock, and so a marketing opportunity arose. They built a replica of the USS Enterprise, a Bust of Mr. Spock and now a Trekcetera Museum. They host Spock Days and a Trek Convention. And when Vulcan was due to celebrate its centennial they created a beer for it.
A Logical Choice.

I can't push it any faster Captain...
She's a Statue!

The Federation of Beer was born of three Star Trek fans who happened to meet at the convention and figured they needed to brew a beer for Vulcan. They have since gone on to contract brew Klingon Warnog (Garrison Brewing Company P.E.I Canada) and Sindicate Lager (From Zatec, Czech Republic)

Onto The Beer!

pours a medium chestnut-red with an ample fluffy off-white head made up of small to medium bubbles.aroma is bright grain, some citrus and light caramel. Very malt forward with sweet molasses and caramel some vanilla lemon and licorice. Aeration brings out the light side of the malt very clean and crisp. Finish is subtle with a light grainy caramel lingering.

Final Thoughts:

I was expecting this to be an average to below average beer, I thought this was merely a marketing gimmick. But no! This was a solid, good Irish red that I would not have a problem with drinking again. Get out and try it! I am looking forward to trying the other beers in the series Especially Klingon Warnog.

P.S My favourite video with Leonard Nimoy is here below. Give it a watch... And Live Long and Prosper.
